Rest in Power: Chuck Brown

Our own Washington D.C. legend and “Godfather of Go-Go” Chuck Brown has passed away today. Brown was responsible for bringing the funk to the nation’s capital and creating the “Go-Go” genre of music out of it. Go-Go is extra percussion that continues to play out after a song is finished to keep the people dancing, and it became very popular in the DC metro area thanks to Brown (probably the biggest artist today that incorporated go-go in parts of his music is Wale). Brown was known for being a very humble person and influenced a number of different musicians around the world with his unique sound. Brown was also a staple of Washington: he is and always be the face of DC and its ever-growing music scene. God Bless you Chuck, and thanks for being such an integral part of our hometown. Rest in Power.
